A robotic arm is a mechanical aid on the life of an industrial machine, usually programmable, with functions similar to those of a human arm; the arm can be the sum of mechanisms or part of a more complex robot. The links of such a manipulator are connected by joints that allow rotational movements or translational displacements. The links of a manipulator can be thought of as forming a kinematic chain. The end of the robotic kinematic chain is called the end-effector and is similar to a human hand.
The versatility of robotic arms makes them an excellent choice for many applications, regardless of industry. They offer a good balance between speed, payload capacity, reach and accuracy. This allows them to perform many tasks effectively. These capabilities also give manufacturers the flexibility to repurpose these robots into different applications beyond their original intent. For other robot types, this may be more difficult. The flexibility given by robotic arms is certainly a value-add for this robot type.
Types of robotic arms
A robotic arm is one of the main components of an industrial robot, sometimes referred to as a robotic manipulator. Robotic arms are programmable mechanical devices connected by joints or axes that allow rotational or linear motion. The robotic arm is responsible for moving and controlling the end-effector to accomplish a specific application.
