Robotic arms are the most widely used automated mechanical devices in the field of robotic technology, and can be found in industrial manufacturing, medical treatment, entertainment services, military, semiconductor manufacturing, and space exploration. Despite their different forms, they all share a common characteristic, which is the ability to receive commands and precisely position themselves to a point in three-dimensional (or two-dimensional) space for operation.
Types
Robotic arms are divided into multi-joint robotic arms, right-angle coordinate system robotic arms, spherical coordinate system robotic arms, polar coordinate robotic arms, column coordinate robotic arms, etc. depending on the form of structure. Figure 1 shows a common six-degree-of-freedom robot arm. It has six degrees of freedom: X-movement, Y-movement, Z-movement, X-rotation, Y-rotation, and Z-rotation.
Role
The arm generally has three movements: telescoping, rotating and lifting. Realization of rotation and lifting motion is done by the cross arm and the production column. The basic function of the arm is to move the claw to the required position and to bear the maximum weight of the workpiece grasped by the claw, as well as the weight of the arm itself.
